Icelandic Poppies – A Light, Joyful Floral for the Home

Before I began creating artworks in cohesive collections, I painted Icelandic Poppies—a standalone piece that still holds such a special place in my heart. It’s light, airy, and full of feminine energy, offering a moment of softness and charm that quietly brightens any room.

This original abstract acrylic painting was inspired by the delicate movement of flowers in bloom—specifically the papery beauty of Icelandic poppies. I wasn’t aiming for realism here, and although if follows my expressionists style, it has a clear form. The finished work is gentle yet expressive, with a palette that balances soft whites and pastels with touches of vibrancy that lift the whole composition.

A Floral with Subtle Power

What I love most about this piece is its ability to feel both modern and timeless. It’s perfect for a soft, charming interior—think muted tones, natural textures, and a sense of calm. Whether placed in a hallway, bedroom, or light-filled living space, Icelandic Poppies brings a breath of fresh air to its surroundings.

It’s also a lovely reminder of the beauty in older pieces—the ones created before I began working in more defined series. Sometimes, the spontaneity of a single painting like this can really capture something unique.

Where to See It

Right now, Icelandic Poppies is on loan to the beautiful Saffron Grange Vineyard, where it’s available to view, alongside a host of my other earlier artworks during their opening hours. If you’re nearby, I highly recommend popping in—not just for the wine, but for the space and the art too!

The piece is also available for purchase—either directly through my website or from the vineyard itself. If you buy online, just allow a few days for prep and postage as I collect it from site and wrap it with care before sending it on its way.

Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind artwork to soften your space, or you simply want to explore something a little different from my current collections, Icelandic Poppies might be the perfect piece.

If you have any questions about it—or want to talk about viewing or framing—just drop me a message. I’d love to help.
